I am Victor, your outdoor adventure guide and photographer, with more than 10 years of experience in the field. I have seen Norway in every season and in every mood, from warm, sunny nights during polar day, to complete whiteouts with stormy winds in endless polar night. In the mountains, fjords, and on the roads.
After 10 years of working in the outdoor industry in Norway for many different companies, small and large, and watching them turn into soulless mass-tourism mills that grind guides until they burn out, and replace them with cheap unexperienced guides, I finally decided to create my own company to provide better quality experiences, with a guide for whom this is not just a summer job in another foreign country, but a lifestyle.
Originally born and raised in Estonia, I came to Norway for the first time in 2014, in a true adventurous style - through the northern part of the Scandinavian Mountains, on a multi-day hike from Kilpisjärvi, Finland, to Oteren, Norway. A decade later, I'm spending almost every single night in this area during the long Arctic winter, chasing the Aurora Borealis.
When I stepped on Norwegian soil for the first time, I didn't know much about the country, so I spent 2 months exploring the country, with only a backpack full of camping gear and photography equipment, hitchhiking from town to town, and wandering in National Parks, without any plans, spending every night under the sky, surrounded by beautiful nature. A true nomadic life, inspired by adventure movies.
When the cold Autumn came, it was time to go to the South, away from cold Norway, as at that moment, I had only summer equipment, and I dreamed of the Sun and warm ocean after months of harsh and unpredictable Norwegian weather. So the whole hitchhiking adventure lasted 7 months before I had to make a pit stop in Estonia, and came back to Norway the next summer.
My second year in Norway, in 2015, I already had some outdoor experience, so I tried to explore even more mountain hikes and less-visited areas, where wild animals were seen more often than people. Another 4 months in Norway passed before I headed to the warm southern countries, again.
In 2016, I decided to explore Iceland, in the same way - backpack and no plan, only the return ticket to Norway, in 1 month. During that month, I hitchhiked around Iceland, bathing in the wild hot springs and sleeping under the sky.
After a month of traveling in Iceland, I returned to Norway, and that same day, while walking by the lake and searching for a spot where to set up my worn-out tent, I noticed an advertisement for a job in an outdoor activities company. The whole journey, which lasted years, led me to that paper advertisement on a half-broken wooden board, barely noticeable in twilight. And that was my door to the outdoor adventures industry.
That door has opened for me 7 seasons in the kayaking industry, guiding in different fjords, 6 winters in dogsledding, and ~500 nights out as a Northern Lights hunter.
During all my time in Norway, I drove about 200,000 kilometers by car, half with my adventure van while exploring the country, and half with my guests. The must-have experience for an outdoor guide in Norway, a country with narrow serpentine roads and harsh weather.
As an Aurora Hunter, I always try to find the best sky with as little light pollution as possible, even if I have to go the extra mile, because I personally want to get the best experience from every single night. No excuses.
For me, the Aurora season is my personal adventure. It's never the same, every single night is different. Some are better than others, but it's impossible to know how the night will be until you live it. Sometimes it's like a rollercoaster of emotions, and this is why I like it.
And of course, on some nights, fighting the weather in Arctic Norway is a challenge. But the feeling, when you go beyond all limits, and win the night - is pure magic.
In the season 2026/2027, I plan to add to my Aurora hunting count another 200 nights. And I invite you to join me on one or a few of these nights and experience the magic.
